What will your memory be like after a brain injury? |
Answer 1/1 - Submitted 8/12/2010
Memory is stored and processed in diffrent parts of the brain. Damage to the temporal lobe can make develop amnesia, and no longer form new memories. Also damage to the temporal lobe can affect auditory memories. Damage to the left temporal lobe can affect all aspects of language like memory of the meaning of words. Damage to the occipital lobe can affect visual memories. Damage to the parietal lobe can affect tactile memories. Procedural memory or unconcious memory such as knowing how to ride a bike can be affected for example the cerebellum likely has a role in memory like this. As you can see, how memory is affected by brain damage depends on where the brain damage occurs, and what that area does (and if that area is part of a large neural circuit).
