My husband hit his head. Should we see the doctor?

My husband hit his forehead in a metal shelf a few hours ago. From what he told me it was not extremely strong, but he did hit it full force and he felt nauseous for about an hour afterwards. He is not in pain, and there is no visible injury but he feels tired since then and that worries me. Should I take him to the doctor? Would a cold compression help? I do not want to overreact but I have heard that even smaller head injuries can be fatal. Thanks for your advice!

If he hit the shelf full force and experienced nausea for an hour, I would suggest you go the emergency room today and have him checked out. You could certainly call before you go, but he probably should be seen.

You should call the doctor and get an x-ray set up to see if there was any damage.

Gently tap around his head and see if that hurts him.

If he just felt pain and it wasnt a very hard surface, then i would say tylenol and a cold bag--but he felt nauseous, so have him atleast call the dr. and see what they say--concussions can be fatal, yes.

hope he feels better!

The young and the old are susceptible to head injuries.Observation is the key.Reduced alertness, drowsiness are warning signs.48hrs is the typical observation period.Nothing to worry as long he is awake and active.Getting in touch with your doctor is always a good idea to keep him informed.

Thank you!
I eventually called the doctor and he also advised observation. He got a good rest and now he is fine, no drowsiness, no pain.

Thanks everyone for the great answers! I called the doctor who advised observation, and I was watching for drowsiness or any warning signs for the past twelve hours. He got a good rest and now he seems to be fine. Thank you again!
