Can #15 coma along with a few skull fractures & brain bleed cause trouble later

Its been nearly 5 months since the head injuries. I now still can not find words to finish a sentence, can not spell commom words & forget almost everything but fake with friends & family that I know what they are talking about. They tell me what I said and I fake it through the conversations while stumbling over words. I thought all these symptoms would heal. I did see a neuologist but forgot to ask all of my questions. Now I know I have to write the questions for my doctors and since I did not complain to the neuologist he stopped our visits. When will this heal. Do I have brain damage. How does a doctor know if the sympoms are brain damage, or just a long healing process. Thank you very much. LAP

Five months is probably not that long a time for healing given the extent of your injury. Having not come from hypertension (aneurysm?), your recovery should be smoother than someone having those circumstances which possibly would need surgery, treatment for the underlying cause of subarachnoid, intracerebral, or other related hemorrhage. ER procedures for that type in injury are 'state of the art' now to prevent ICP, intracranial pressure. You probably had barbitarate coma induced for protection of delicate brain tissue. Reports that I saw say that verbal skills are maybe the slowest to come back, maybe this is just understanding speach and talking becasue you write very good. Many people make a complete recovery from this type injury because generally if it doesn't kill you your chances are very good....little or no damage. Have people talk more slowly. They should understand you've come through something very traumatic and need time. Take extrra time to brush up on these skills using recordings and practice speach skills or get a tutor. Any brain damage would have to be made clear to you as it is the responsibility of your doctor to make sure you understand the implications of your injury. Next time don't forget to make a list of questions for h/her.
